A R T H R I T I S

Today is WORLD ARTHRITIS DAY - which brings to my mind the number of people I know that suffer from some form of Arthritis. We usually associate it with the elderely but, infact it can effect people of any age, including children, and the arthritis ranges from mild aches to severe impairment. Arthritis is a umbrella term for more than a hundred different joint diseases ranging from pain and swelling in the joints - to osteoarithritis, which is a degenerative disease of the joints which wears away the protective cartilage often of the fingers, knees, hips and spine.

A diet rich in Calcium and Magnesium is recommended. It is good for both types of arthritis - rheumatoid and osteoarthritic. Regular mild exercise like walking and swimming has an overall beneficial effect. Supportive treatments like compresses, massages and baths using essential oils help to relieve pain, relax the muscles .remove inflamation and improve circulation thus removing toxins and swelling which is important in the treatment of arthritis.

Essential oil of Lavender is very soothing for all aches and pains. Use it to massage the area of pain gently. I have also used 2 to 3 drops of Lavender in a hot water compress. Remove the compress when it starts to get cold. Repeat 3 to 4 times a day until the pain subsides.

TRY THIS FAVOURITE BLEND OF MINE :
1 drop of Lavender
1drop of Ginger
1 drop of Rosemary
1 drop of Eucalyptus
Mixed in 1 tablespoon SESAME oil or ARNICA oil. Very gently apply and massage the oil into the area and wrap in a towel diped in hot water to which a handful of MAGNESIUM SULPHATE has been added. Do this 3 or 4 times a day - especially before sleeping and first thing in the morning.
